Le 3e Sommet AfricTivistes qui devait se tenir à Nairobi au Kenya en fin octobre 2021 va finalement se tenir à Abidjan en Côte d’Ivoire du 11 au 13 novembre prochain à cause du durcissement des mesures contre la Covid-19.
Le Kenya où devait se tenir le 3ème sommet AfricTivistes fait face à une vague de contamination. Et pour freiner la propagation de la maladie, les autorités kényanes ont durci les mesures de restrictions notamment l’interdiction des rencontres et rassemblements depuis juillet rendant ainsi difficile les préparatifs pour l’organisation effective de l'événement à Nairobi en octobre.
Face à cette situation, AfricTivistes a décidé de changer le lieu et de tenir finalement la manifestation à Abidjan. Toutefois, Nairobi accueillera le prochain sommet en 2023.
Le thème de la troisième édition du sommet AfricTivistes, #Abidjan2021, est "Promouvoir le développement et la gouvernance démocratique de l’Internet en Afrique".
Dans ce contexte de crise sanitaire, l’évènement se déroula sous un format semi présentiel avec un nombre réduit de participant. Les autres AfricTivistes un peu partout dans le continent et la diaspora auront ainsi la possibilité de suivre la rencontre à distance, en live, et de participer aux débats et discussions.
Ainsi, #Abidjan2021 se déroulera sur trois jours et réunira 50 activistes du web, des acteurs du changement, des membres de mouvements sociaux, des chercheurs et innovateurs, des partenaires, des blogueurs, des journalistes et des netizens du continent autour de thèmes tels que:
Compétences numériques et communautés en ligne;
Gouvernements: goulot d'étranglement pour le développement de l'Internet en Afrique ?;
Perturbations à l'engagement civique en raison du manque d'accès à internet;
Gouvernance de l'Internet en Afrique : quels rôles pour la société civile;
Utiliser les réseaux d’organisations de la société civile pour promouvoir la démocratie en Afrique.
Il faut noter que cet évènement est organisé chaque deux ans en vue de discuter des enjeux du continent en relation avec la démocratie et la bonne gouvernance ainsi que la place et l’impact du numérique dans les processus démocratiques, la gouvernance et la conscience citoyenne.
Pour cette troisième édition, la pandémie Covid-19 est venue chambouler à plusieurs reprises son organisation. Il devait se tenir en juin 2020 à Nairobi avant d’être reporté en 2021. Cette fois-ci, aussi bien la date que le lieu ont changé afin de s’adapter aux réalités du moment.

3rd AfricTivistes summit will be held in Abidjan in November 2021
The 3rd AfricTivistes summit which was expected to take place in Nairobi, Kenya at the end of October 2021 will finally be held in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire from 11th to 13th November due to stricter Covid-19-related restrictions.
Kenya, which was to host the 3rd AfricTivistes summit, has been experiencing a wave of contamination. And to stop the spread of the disease, the Kenyan authorities have tightened restrictions, including a ban on public gatherings since July, making it difficult to prepare for the effective organisation of the event in Nairobi in October.
Considering this situation, AfricTivistes has decided to change the venue and finally hold the event in Abidjan. However, Nairobi will host the next summit in 2023.
The theme of the third AfricTivistes summit, #Abidjan2021, is "Promoting development and democratic governance of the Internet in Africa".
In this context of a pandemic, the event will be in a hybrid format with a limited number of participants travelling to Abidjan. Other AfricTivistes from all over the continent and the diaspora will contribute to the discussions and the debates thanks to the live streaming of the summit.
Thus, #Abidjan2021 will last three days and will bring together 50 web activists, changemakers, members of social movements, researchers and innovators, partners, bloggers, journalists and netizens of the continent around topics such as:
Digital skills and online communities;
Governments: bottlenecks to Internet development in Africa?
Disruptions to civic engagement due to lack of internet access;
Internet governance in Africa: what role can civil society play?;
Harnessing the power of organised civil society networks to promote democracy in Africa.
This summit is organised every two years to discuss the challenges of the continent in relation to democracy and good governance as well as the place and impact of digital technology in democratic processes, governance and citizen awareness.
The Covid-19 pandemic has repeatedly disrupted the holding of this third edition. First, it was scheduled for June 2020 in Nairobi before being postponed to 2021. This time around, both the date and the venue have been changed to adapt to the realities of this new world.
